UKVI Increases Maintenance Requirements for Student Visa Applicants — Effective from 11th November 2025

UKVI Update Alert
The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) department has officially announced an update to the maintenance (living expense) requirement for all UK student visa applicants, effective from 11th November 2025.
This change directly impacts students applying for their Student Visa (Tier 4) and highlights the need for accurate financial planning before submitting a visa application.
New Maintenance Requirements
- For students studying in London: £1,529 per month — £13,761 per year
- For students studying outside London: £1,171 per month — £10,539 per year
These updated figures represent the minimum amount students must show in their bank statements to prove they can cover their living expenses during their studies in the UK.
What This Means for Students
If you’re planning to apply for your UK Student Visa, it’s crucial that your financial documents reflect these new requirements.
Failure to show the correct maintenance amount can lead to delays or even visa refusals.
The change is part of the UK government’s effort to ensure that international students have sufficient funds to support themselves while studying in the UK.
